and I saw a song titled ‘pupo pupo’. It was
released by a female up-and-coming artiste called
Toli Angel. After I downloaded it, I carefully
listened to its lyrics and I observed that it’s
more like a reply to ‘melo melo’, a song by
Olamide. The artiste picked some words from
‘melo melo’ to express her mind to her guy.
Check out this excerpt from the song, “Eyin fun
jowo, eyin menu gun. Duduyemi mi Akanni the
tree at my back, nigba ko s’owo, nigba ko s’ola,
nigba ko s’oro t’aye ro wa pin I stood by you.
You knew you made some mistakes as you don
dey regret, you no go forget to cherish wetin
you get. The very first day we met at the back
of my house, I was like baby boo you’re not
Posh enough.”
This is an excerpt from ‘melo melo’ by Olamide,
“Eyin fun jowo, eyin menu gun. Aponbepore mi
Akanke, igi leyin ogba mi. Nigba ko s’owo, nigba
ko s’ola. Nigba ko s’oro, ti aye ro mi pin you
stood by me. I know I made some mistakes but
I don dey regret. Now I no go forget to cherish
wetin I get. The very first day we met, I told
you how I felt. Walahi I dey melt, my baby you
are the best.”
Compare the above excerpts and you’ll agree with
me that ‘pupo pupo’ is a reply to ‘melo melo’.
The choruses of both songs are opposite because
Olamide was saying how many thing can he
mention from what his lady has done for him in
‘Melo melo’ while Toli Angel was saying she can
mention many things she has done for her guy
in ‘Pupo pupo’. The song ‘pupo pupo’ is an
expression of feelings to some guys who didn’t
cherish their ladies despite what they’ve passed
through for them.
Toli Angel hails from Ibadan. She has few songs
to her credit, but she’s finally gaining ground in
the music industry. In fact, her name was listed
in Naijaloaded’s article, titled “Next to Blow”. She
is a member of King’s Music and this her latest
song was produced by Yungking of King’s Music.
